So I decided it maybe beneficial to show some of the more commonly asked questions and my responses to them. However, some of the recommendations may not be appropriate in all situations and are not intended as a substitute for treatment or services ordinarily provided by health care professionals for physiological or psychological complaints. Kohi supplies the highest quality products. Be sure to tell Helen I suggested that you ring. 2 What is the difference between Micro-Filtered Whey and Ultra-Filtered Whey? Is there a downside to using the Ultra type? Answer: I don’t know what ‘Ultra-Filtered Whey’ is. I suggest that it is merely a manufacturer’s name for the product they are producing. I have no way of being able to tell you whether or not they are manufacturing good quality Micro-Filtered Whey. Read the labels carefully, for there are a great deal of fillers often added to products. Often there is an attempt to make the products appear to be Micro-Filtered Whey when it is also mixed with other ingredients, such as ordinary whey, which is much cheaper to manufacture. 3 I am curious as to why diabetics are not supposed to do hydrotherapy. I also wondered whether there is anywhere you could recommend where I could find myself a hydrotherapy practitioner? Answer: I am not sure why diabetics are not supposed to
practice hydrotherapy. I have never heard that myself. Perhaps it has
something to do with low blood pressure. If your blood pressure is low
then hot water can make you feel faint, but I am not sure this is the
case. 4 My partner has very hot baths. I’m sure this isn’t good for his skin, although I can’t remember why! His argument is that saunas are good for your skin and the whole idea of them is the heat. Can you advise me? Also I was wondering what your feeling’s were on ‘Colloidal Silver’? I read (and continue to refer to) your book Endless Energy years ago, you were ahead of your time. I only recently found your website, it’s great, Well done! Rho. Answer: Hot baths are often shunned by western practitioners of natural medicine. I have never been quite sure why. In Japan hot baths are par for the course and I haven’t heard of them doing anyone any harm. They can of course be drying to the skin. I personally adore hot baths, they relax me like nothing else does except a good movie. Colloidal Silver has an ability to strengthen the body immune capacities and ward off bacterial infection. Thanks so much for your kind comments on Endless Energy. My daughter Susannah and I wrote that book with a great deal of passion. It is, by the way, coming out later this year in a new form. 5 I live in Sydney, Australia. The product Glycosport that you mention in your Lean Revolution book is not available here. Where can I buy it from in the UK or USA? Kind Regards, Usha Patel. Answer: I am so sorry to no longer know where you can get Glycosport. It was a very good product, but I believe that the company selling it in the UK either closed down or are no longer doing it. Sorry I cannot be of any more help. 6 I have recently been diagnosed as having Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, and am trying to conceive. Do you have any recommendations for this condition, or for increasing the chance of conceiving naturally by taking vitamin or mineral supplements? Answer: I think with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome it is important that you find a good doctor who is trained in natural medicine and understands the use of natural hormones. It is particularly important that you work with someone who understands the importance and the means by which natural progesterone can be used to balance the excess of estrogen in the body. Ovarian cysts are a sure sign that your body is estrogen dominant. Take a look at Passage to Power, there is a great deal in there about countering estrogen dominance using natural progesterone cream and also various traditional herbs. 7 Please could you advise on a healthy diet for pregnancy (is there a book available?). I have started off badly and would like to rectify things before its too late. Thank you. Answer: I wish I knew a good book on a healthy diet for pregnancy that I could recommend. Both my daughter-in-laws are pregnant at the moment – one with twins. I have looked everywhere for good books on pregnancy, including good nutrition during pregnancy, only to be enormously disappointed on what I have found. My publisher and I recently discussed this and I came to the conclusion perhaps I should write one. One of the basic principles in pregnancy is you need to listen to what your body wants. Many women will have cravings for unusual foods. My mother had a craving for alfalfa, and used to insist that my father drive her out to the country so she could literally lie down in fields of alfalfa, just drawing in the quality of this particular grass. The kind of cravings I would be a little bit concerned about are cravings for starches and sugars, because this can be a sign that your blood sugar is a bit out of whack. I would suggest that you take a look at the book I have written that has just come out this month, The X Factor Diet. The Insulin Balance Diet in the book is a good general diet for pregnancy (NOT The Ketogenic Diet which should never be used in pregnancy). Provided you allow yourself some leeway and follow the general principles of insulin balance in The X Factor Diet you should be just fine. Naturally, if you want to nourish your body and your baby well you don’t want to be eating convenience foods. You want to emphasis fresh not starchy vegetables, such as broccoli, spinach and any of the green vegetables. Low glycaemic fruits, such as melons, strawberries and apples are fine too. You may find that dates and bananas are a little bit sugary and can disturb the blood sugar in some people. The most important advice of all is trust your body and listen to it. It knows what you need. 8 What are the two women in the home page ‘kitchen’ photograph on? And can I have some? Also why is the circle broken? Estrella Pequena Answer: Your question made me laugh. The women in the photograph are Susannah, my daughter, and myself. This particular photograph was taken at the end of a photographic session done for Raw Energy several years ago. We were messing around in the kitchen. I love the photo and though it would be fun to put on the website. The answer to ‘can I have some’ is yes, just follow a raw energy way of eating where 58-75% of your foods are raw and organic. The broken circle on the page is designed to lead you back. Each page of my website is designed to lead you back to the homepage. As far as why it is broken that is a question you need to address to the webmaster who designed it. I like it. It reminds me that anything can enter or leave the circle. 9 I’ve just finished reading your book Raw Energy Food Combining Diet, with great interest, but I feel that for me, the focus was far too much about weight loss. I’m a 33 year old male, who is slender, slim, well lets face it, I’m just plain skinny! So why would I be interested in food combining? My posture is bad, and although I am skinny I do have a ‘beer belly, which could be caused from an impacted colon (no, I don’t drink a lot of beer). I’ve lost 15lbs since I stared eating healthier, and I was skinny before. I weight train 3 times a week. I’m desperately trying to regain the weight, but muscle, not fat of course. Answer: It is important that you get enough quality protein from organic meats, free range organic eggs, fresh fish, tofu and game. I strongly suspect that if you have a ‘beer belly’ your diet is too high in carbohydrate dense foods. I suggest you also take a look at the Insulin Balance Diet in The X Factor Diet which has just been released in the UK. Don’t worry about losing weight, insulin balance normalizes weight. If you need to gain muscle mass it can help you do this. It sounds to me with your weight training that you should be building lean body mass, provided you are doing it properly. This means not exercising the same body part more than once every three days. If you are not building lean body mass – which as you know is much heavier than the fat on the body – I think it is important to increase the amount of protein you eat. I would also suggest you consider taking some Micro-Filtered Whey (see resources). If you have consulted a practitioner who tells you your body tends to hold on to waste matter and needs to be detoxified, then I would strongly suggest that you try the Insulin Balance Diet. It is an ideal diet not only for people who want to lose weight, but for people in general as it is very close to the diet our Paleolithic ancestors thrived on, and is very low in starch. It sounds to me as though you could be eating far too much starch which turns into sugar, or fruit juice which is full of sugars. I would suggest that you drastically cut the starches in your diet and increase the green vegetables and low glycaemic fruits, if you like fruit. Water matters a great deal. Pure water (not tap water) is essential to detoxify the body. I strongly suspect that you are getting to much carbohydrate, if you are interested in building lean body mass it is the protein not the carbohydrate that will do this. 10 My immune system has been in bad shape for a couple of years and I have tried lots of natural therapies, but lack the consistency to make them work…. So, which one of your books deals with willpower? Thanks Laura. Answer: At the risk of sounding as if I am trying to sell a book (which is really not my intention) I think you should read The X Factor Diet. When I did the documentary in New Zealand, ‘To Age or Not to Age’, last year we took eight people between the ages of 30 and 60, from all different ethnic groups and introduced them to The X Factor Diet. They ate as much as they wanted, but following the principles of The X Factor Diet, everyone of them discovered that their immune system was enhance quite dramatically once they were eating in a way that eliminated blood sugar shifts and insulin resistance associated with syndrome X. I would suggest changing your diet in this way, and then you can begin to work with immune enhancing substances, but without making this shift many people find that they cannot restore their immune responses adequately. 11 You appear in the USANA Essentials leaflet, but I cannot find a reference to this product on your website, please help. Melanie. Answer: I’m sorry I don’t know what the USANA Essentials leaflet is so I cannot make any comment on your question. I have suggested to many people that they make use of the USANA Lean Team videos that enable you to do resistance training at home in front of your television. DR Michael Colgan, who I think is the most knowledgeable man in the English speaking world on weight training, created the original videos. I understand that USANA are bringing out a new series of weight training videos, but I cannot comment on them as I have not yet seen them.
