The number of people writing to me with questions is phenomonal - I could fill a book with them. So I decided it maybe beneficial to show some of the more commonly asked questions and my responses to them. However, some of the recommendations may not be appropriate in all situations and are not intended as a substitute for treatment or services ordinarily provided by health care professionals for physiological or psychological complaints. Because of the complexity of medical situations, medical questions will not be addressed.
I've also selective resources
relative to healing that I want to tell you about.

Q: I have read Leslie book Journey to Freedom, would it be worth me attending the Journey to Freedom workshops?
A: Leslie often recommends the course to people who may also be working through the book as the experience from working in a group-situation can be very powerful and focused, and just the kind of thing to help people really make progress with their journeying. For this reason the two compliment each other quite nicely.
Q: No
matter how hard I try I just cannot seem to experience a ‘journey’, where am
I going wrong?
A: Leslie says that most people who experience problems with journeying are troubled by either one of two things – or both. The first is a tendency to try too hard. We have been brought up to believe that the harder you try, the better you succeed. This is not true. Journeying is not done through effort, but by gently focussing your intention with compassion and allowing – not forcing – it to happen. The other difficulty is caused by being quite intelligent and highly trained in left brain activity so that you have a tendency to analyse everything and not be allowed just to let your instinct, intuition and imagination work. Working in a group can quickly break through these problems. Journeying is like remembering something you knew, but had forgotten long ago.

Q: Where can I obtain Tryptophan in the UK?
A: Tryptophan is unobtainable in the UK. However, Leslie believes there is a better alternative. It is 5-Hydroxy Tryptophan sold as Serotone, which is the first conversion of Tryptophan towards the brain chemical serotonin. Serotone is available from the Nutri Centre in two strengths 50mg or 100mg. The 50mg strength costs £7.90 for 30 tablets or £22 for 90. The 100mg strength costs £14.80 for 30 tablets and £39.90 for 90. Please contact The Nutri Centre for more details, 7 Park Crescent, London. W1N 3HE. Tel: 020 7436 5122. Fax 020 7436 5171.
Q: Why does Leslie advocates a 50%-75% raw food diet as in Raw Energy, if raw foods are so good for you wouldn’t it be better to eat 100% raw foods?
A: Raw foods are highly eliminative and this is a major reason they are so powerful in detoxifying and healing the body. But the body needs also a good supply of protein and according to oriental medicine some cooked foods as well or the spleen energy becomes weakened.
There are probably a million other reasons too. However, what Leslie can tell you is that she, herself and her family and many others who have experimented with an all raw diet over a long period of time generally find it a little ungrounding (so that you get powerful spiritual energies but can’t sometimes bring them into being to live them out in a practical way on the planet). They have also found that eventually the body begins to get weaker. This is the reason why Raw Energy advocates about 50% - 75% of your foods raw.
Some of the foods you might wish to include in your diet, Leslie suggests, are carbohydrates such as brown rice and baked potatoes. Protein such as tofu or free range eggs, fish, or chicken. You might also try some organic lambs liver.
A good organic meat distributor that Leslie recommends is Longwood Farm Organic Meats, Tudenham St Mary, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP28 6TB. Tel: 01638 717120.

Q: Why is Food-combining not advocated in 10 Steps to Energy & 10 Day Clean Up Plan?
A: Leslie says quite simply that food combining is not necessary for everyone. But it is wonderful for those who need it. Ten Day Clean Up Plan is a detox diet which itself doesn’t need much food combining and the diet in Ten Steps to Energy is a good solid way of eating that anyone - apart from those who really would benefit from food-combining - can follow.
Q: Where can I find nutritionist in my area?
A: For an up-to-date list of nutritionists write to the Institute of Optimum Nutrition. Leslie believes they are a wonderful institution and heartily recommends anyone seeking a nutritionist’s advice to contact one on their list. ION, Blades Court, Deodar Road, London, SW15 2NU. Tel: 0181 877 9993.
Q: I suffer from terrible depression, what can I do?
A: Leslie believes strongly that despair and depression are almost invariably a deep call from within of the soul - a crying out to live more truly who you are at the deepest level. She is always insistent that we become aware of any biochemical reasons for our suffering - such things as food allergies (the two most common ones are mill products and wheat), candida albicans, reactive hypoglycaemia or chronic low-blood sugar etc.
But equally important are the psychological and spiritual part of our lives. Leslie believes that each of us is on the earth to live out as fully as possible in our day-to-day existence the true nature of our soul’s unique qualities. Sadly we are taught in school, by our parents often and by our religious training, not to trust ourselves, not to listen to the whispers of our soul. So prevalent is this in our culture that many of us come to the point where we feel really out of touch with our essential nature and are profoundly unhappy. We feel that we are not living our own life but rather by somebody else’s rules. This leads to a sense of profound grief and anger, frustration and depression - all of which can only transform themselves into creative energy once we learn to listen to what we really want at the soul level and begin to live it out in our lives.
Then to the soul - the deepest spiritual core of us and the personality - the way we appear to the world gradually come closer and closer to one another, our life becomes authentic and the grief and disillusionment, despair and depression become transformed into energy for us to use in whatever way we choose. It is a slow organic process for most people but an infinitely satisfying one too.
Leslie works a lot with this kind of thing and how to build those bridges between the soul and the outer personality in her workshops. Why not do one with her? You might find it helpful in making the transitions in your own life. Leslie always says that each of us has a unique role to play on the planet. When we play it, it not only brings us great joy it brings the very highest we have to offer to our families, our community and to the earth as a whole. May you be blessed to discover your own beauty and play your role with joy. The world needs you to be who you are.

Q: I have tried every diet and cannot face to look at another menu type plan or count calories. Any ideas please?
A: Leslie answers (from RAW ENERGY RECIPES, page 120
Raw foods are a boon to slimmers. The uncooked fibre which they contain decreases the amount of fat absorbed during digestion, creates a feeling of fullness and satisfaction, and spring-cleans the body of waste products that can make you feel tired. Raw foods also decrease food sensitivity reactions which lead many people to over-eat from cravings, raise energy levels and, thanks to their alkalinising quality, enhance your ability to deal with stress. For more information see The New Raw Energy.
Q: Can you give me any advice to control acne?
A: Leslie answers (from Look Great page 21)
The cause
Although it is more common among teenagers than among any other age group, acne, an infection of the sebaceous glands, can occur at any time in life. It shows up as blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and pustules that occur on the face and neck, back and chest.
The cause of acne is still not completely understood, and the recommended treatment tends to vary. Many people with acne are victims of a food sensitivity or allergy - the most common allergens being wheat, milk, or preservatives and colourings. And when the elimination of waste via the alimentary canal is inadequate, often wastes are eliminated through the skin. Finally, stress and emotional upset are often implicated.
Prevention and cure
Look to your diet first. Eliminate sweets, sugared soft drinks, and fatty foods such as nuts and fried foods. A diet in which at least 50 per cent of your foods are eaten raw often does wonders for even long-term acne, provided it is used in conjunction with the proper external care and vitamin and mineral supplements where necessary.
It is essential to keep the skin clean, removing dirt and excess oil or waxy sebum regularly, using gentle, pH-balanced soaps or detergent cleansers. Skin should be washed in warm water at least twice a day and steamed twice a week to encourage the release of waste matter. Of course your hands should be immaculate so as not to encourage further infection.
Topical agents are often helpful. Retinoic acid, a derivative of vitamin A acid (available only by prescription) applied to the skin is one of the commonly used and generally effective treatments for acne. Sometimes dermatologists use the antibiotic tetracycline, usually administered in doses of 250mg twice a day. In many cases this has dramatically reduced the acne, but there are disadvantages to antibiotic treatment, too. Because of the stress aspects of acne, both regular exercise and meditation or deep relaxation can be helpful too.
Q: I suffer from tension. Is there a technique I could employ to help myself – parts of my body are sore and tight.
A: Leslie answers from 10 Steps to a New You (page 109)
This is a technique based on the work of Edmund Jacobson and is an excellent way to begin if you have never done any sort of relaxation or meditation technique before, because it gives most people some sense of what relaxation feels like. As you repeat the technique again and again, you will find that you enter a progressively deeper state of relaxation.
The whole practice demands about 15 minutes (it is best done twice a day) with a break of from two to five minutes of stillness while you experience the relaxed state you have achieved.
The first few times you try the technique, you may find you have trouble picturing all the images as they come or preventing your mind from wandering. It doesn’t matter if you don’t ‘see’ anything. Some people are more visual in their imagery and others more feeling; both work superbly well, just approach the exercise from your own point of view. When you find your mind wandering (which is a common occurrence because one’s concentration is not used to focusing so intensely, or because being a new technique or a new feeling causes a little anxiety) ask yourself ‘Why is my mind wandering?’ Pursue that thought for a couple of minutes, then go back to the exercise and continue it as best you can. All difficulties will iron themselves out automatically after you have practised the technique often enough.
