An over fat body is an unhealthy body. Few overweight people experience such aliveness no matter how so-called `healthy' they are. I know. I myself have been one of those `healthy' overweights and it isn't fun. Like many other people who have carried from 10 to 50 (or even more) pounds of excess fat about on their frame, I have many times wanted to move as the horse does - to run with energy and joy just because it feels good to be alive and to have a sense of strength and freedom of movement in my body. And many times I have had to settle for second-best - lumbering more like a self-conscious rhinoceros and faintly hoping that nobody would notice the great effort it all took or remark on the gracelessness of my movements.
Unfortunately, no matter how much you console yourself with the idea that you are generally healthy, that you eat well, that you have genetically inherited a tendency to be fat or that the latest statistics reassuringly indicate you can be considerably over the insurance statistic weight charts and still be `safe', most of us who are or have ever been over fat have a sense that to some extent we are missing out. We are not as alive as we could be, nor as beautiful, nor as joyous - and we know it.
Make Way for Biogenics
Biogenic food combining can change that for you. It has for me and thousands of other people who have used it either because they are resistant to weight-loss or generally less healthy than they could be. The word `biogenic' means life-generating. It describes a unique approach to health, nutrition and permanent weight-loss based on natural fresh foods which have been carefully combined. We will be exploring the biogenic system in depth in the chapters which follow.
`Biogenics' is an apt name for this superbly effective way of eating and living which can enhance cellular vitality, help restore healthy metabolism and normal weight, and encourage your body to rebalance its biophysical and biochemical functioning so you are able to live at a high level of energy and `aliveness'.
Just in case you are worried that what you will be reading is some newfangled idea, rest assured. There is little new about biogenics. Nor can I take much credit for what follows. I am only a reporter - someone who discovered biogenics because I myself went searching for a solution to my own fat-shedding challenge. I learned about it as a result of ploughing through literally hundreds of books and scientific papers and talking to scores of physicians, biochemists and natural health practitioners who have used it in one form or another for trimming down their patients and for encouraging the bodies of unwell people to heal themselves. That, after all, is what permanent fat-loss is all about - restoring normal functioning and form to a body which has become unbalanced, sluggish, and distorted in size and texture and shape.
Living Sculpture
Michelangelo claimed that he never imposed any shape or form onto the piece of marble he was carving. He insisted that instead he simply used his sculptor's tools to reveal the natural form hidden within the marble. In many ways your overweight body is rather like his marble. Within it is hidden its vital, naturally healthy and lean form. Biogenics is nothing more than an efficient tool for helping you uncover it - a biological method of `living sculpture'.
The idea that steady and permanent fat-loss can take place the biogenic way - as a result of eating natural delicious foods at specific times of the day, avoiding certain food combinations, and getting regular but non-strenuous exercise - may come as a shock to some people, both nutritionists and laymen alike, who have been brought up to believe that counting calories and going hungry is the only way to shed excess weight. I have even seen it make a few `dedicated calorie-counters' very angry indeed. For old assumptions about weight-loss die hard. And as you might imagine biogenics is decidedly unpopular with the multi-million pound slimming industry, which survives on people's failures - failures which keep selling diet products almost as fast as they can be manufactured. But it can be a godsend to people who, like me, have struggled for a long time with the battle of the bulge and who genuinely want to get rid of fat which does not rightly belong to them, and to `run free' as the horse does.
As Old as Civilization
A system of living based on natural fresh foods -vegetables and fruits, wholegrains, seeds and nuts and dairy products with fish, poultry and game if you wish – biogenics has been used with minor variations, depending upon culture and custom, for healing and for enhancing mental and physical awareness throughout the civilized world for quite literally thousands of years. Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, who said `let your foods be your medicine', knew about it, as did the famous European physician Paracelsus in the Middle Ages. The Essenes who lived in the Holy Land at the time of Jesus based all their teachings about mental and physical health on a biogenic way of life. It also formed the foundation of treatment for doctors who were part of what in the nineteenth century was known as the `natural hygiene movement' in the United States and Britain. In Paris during the 1920's French author and Nobel laureate Romain Rolland together with Edmond Szekely formed what they called the International Biogenic Society for Living – a group of people throughout the world intent on exploring the use of biogenic principles for enhancing health. Biogenic principles also form the basis of health and rejuvenation treatment at many of Europe's and America's finest spas.
Perfect Mix
The Biogenic Diet also asks that you pay attention to the particular way in which foods are combined to encourage natural fat-loss even in the most resistant bodies. This category includes women with cellulite, people whose metabolism has been drastically slowed down by indiscriminate use of nutritionally inadequate low-calorie diets, and people who can't seem to lose fat except on starvation fare. It also includes people who have difficulty shedding excess pounds because of food sensitivities and addictions and people who are often riddled with guilt at what they see as their `lack of self control' (these are the kind of people who sit down to have one biscuit with a cup of tea and find to their horror they have devoured the whole packet). Finally it includes people like me who, even on a very healthy diet of natural foods, still have a tendency to hold on to the fat deposits in their bodies.
A Glimpse at What's Ahead
In the pages which follow we shall be looking closely at biogenics and at how you can make it work for you to shed unwanted fat forever without ever counting a calorie. In the process we shall need to investigate why low-calorie slimming simply doesn't work for long-term weight-loss, to look at the mysteries of digestion and fat metabolism and to explore the relationship between toxicity and the laying down of fat in your body from within. We shall also have to investigate the importance of water - not the kind which pours forth from your tap but the water rich in electrolytes which lies locked within the fiber of the fresh fruits and vegetables we eat. This water plays an important part in biogenic slimming by enhancing cell metabolism and thereby helping to resculpt the shape of your body.
First we shall be exploring the whole question of the biological processes involved in weight-loss, not only from a biochemical point of view which deals with measuring energy units as calories but also from an energetic one which brings into play the findings of high-level physics as well - an approach which is starting to be known as the `new nutrition'.
If you care nothing for understanding how and why this extraordinary biogenic system works then you can skip the explanations and turn to Chapter 18, where the guidelines for biogenic eating and living begin. But I strongly advise against this. So revolutionary is this new-yet-very-old solution to overweight that it is something which I believe needs to be understood (that is, as far as the complexities of nature have so far revealed themselves to us) in order to make the most effective use of it. For biogenics is not some list of rules to be learned by rote and then slavishly followed. Nor is it only a way of living which can pare away unwanted fat deposits. A biogenic lifestyle which combines nutrition and exercise has the potential to raise you to the heights of well-being, energy and good looks. But to do that it needs to become a lot more than a list of what to eat when and with what. It needs to become part of your thinking as well. It may even change for the better the way you look at yourself and at the world. For me it did both.
